This instructional unit provides the participant with the basic knowledge, principles, and preparation to fabricate and remove provisional restoration. This skill is part of the State of Iowa's Level One Expanded Functions for dental hygienists or dental assistants. This course adds new skills to an updated expanded function. It includes Fabrication, Temporary Cementation & Removal of Provisional Restorations + Recementation of Provisional Restorations. This updated course allows a dental assistant or hygienist to be able to perform most steps of the provisional process. Participants must comply with 1 of the following: 1. Hold an active dental hygiene licensed in Iowa; OR 2. Be currently certified by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB); OR 3. Have at least 1 year of clinical practice as a registered dental assistant; OR 4. Have at least 1 year of clinical practice as a dental assistant in the state that does not require registration. Continuing Education Units: 14 (4 hours didactic and 10 hours laboratory & clinical) *It is strongly recommended that assistants taking this course be certified in Removal of Adhesives or take the course at the same time. Participants will be unable to complete all of the cementation clinical requirements without it as many of the clinical standards overlap.
