Map and Directions

Get a primer (or refresher) on basic black and white printing in Hawkeye Community College's premiere darkroom facility. Led by master printer and adjunct analog photography instructor, Shannon Graham, you'll discover the magic of creating traditional black and white photographs. Learn how photos were created before digital cameras and inkjet printers. It's a wonderful experience, and an opportunity to unplug, slow down, and reflect for a few evenings over this one-week course. You'll learn the basics of creating a print and get insider tips from a professional photographic artist with over 40 years of experience in the darkroom. Whether you're just curious about traditional photography, want to relive darkroom days of the past, or are interested in creating your own darkroom at home, it promises to be fun and insightful. No matter your skill level, from beginner to expert, I am willing to work with you. Negatives to print will be provided, though you're encouraged to bring any processed B&W negatives (35mm, 120, or 4x5 only - no color negatives). Film can be developed for you (35mm or 120 only). Look for the pre-class survey. Paper and chemistry costs are covered in the course fee.

Pre-registration required.
