Traci McCausland – Performance Improvement: Managing and Coaching Around 12 Questions

The numbers don’t lie.  When employees feel valued and are able to play to their strengths, productivity, profitability, customer ratings, retention, and overall well-being improve.  According to the Gallup Organization, “managers account for at least 70% of the variance in employee engagement scores.”

During Traci's session, she will help you understand a framework which leads to improved employee engagement and performance outcomes.  The workshop will focus on applying the process to how organizations and managers can lead, inspire, and engage team members and colleagues.

Traci McCausland is the founder of Follow Your Strengths and one of the first Gallup-Certified Strengths Coaches in the state of Iowa. Traci’s work experience includes organization development, career coaching, and training delivery. Clients have included ACT, Accenture, John Deere, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa.

Traci is a Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Organizations from the University of Iowa and her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas.

Paul Greene – The What and Why of Inclusion in the Workplace

This session will explore what is and what is not Inclusion. It will dispel myths we hear about Inclusion and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Most importantly, it will discuss the many benefits of Inclusion in the workplace.

Paul Greene is the director of All Learn LLC, a company providing training, teaching, presentation, and project management services to businesses and organizations across Iowa. He spent his previous professional career in facility management, construction project management, safety, and environmental management. Paul is an authorized First Aid, CPR, AED instructor through the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) and an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer.

Over the last thirty years Paul has also served on many local/state councils and boards dedicated to providing services to and advocating for people with disabilities.  His presentations and training in this area have included (dis)ability awareness, inclusion, and diversity.  Paul is a graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Minor in Construction Engineering.  He also received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Northern Iowa.

Heather Marquez – Creating a Value-Based Sales Proposition

Have you ever considered why your sales negotiations become price led or that it is difficult to differentiate your sales approach from the competition? In a market where 72% of buyers do not engage a sales person until after they have defined their needs, as reported by Forrester Research, it can appear that a buying decision is based only on price and availability.

Heather Marquez will share ActionCOACH and Lammore (renowned sales training organization) client centric sales approach that supports a buying decision based on the discovery and understanding of “Compelling Needs."  This is the first of 3 key elements that make up the Single Sales Principle, the foundation of Lammore’s award winning sales training program, The Principled Selling Series.

Heather Marquez realized early in life that there was more to being a leader than a title and a set of keys. Her experience as a 16-year-old cashier began her lifetime quest to build her leadership skills and help others develop theirs.

With more than 25 years of management, leadership, and training experience, Heather’s mission is to help others realize their purpose and passion through collaboration that will unlock their leadership potential. She can identify with the challenges business leaders face because, for 20 years, she held management and training positions in large corporations

Heather uses the best leadership and productivity methods and tools available to achieve results: she is a John Maxwell Team Certified Coach, Speaker, and Trainer; ThinkBuzan Mind Mapping Instructor; Certified Human Behavior Specialist; and an ActionCOACH.

Wilson Rojas – Promoting Innovation Through Design Thinking

How might we promote innovation in our organization? That is a hard question to answer. Innovating within an organization is sometimes expensive and time-consuming because companies try to innovate without a methodology or plan of action. Design Thinking is a human-centered methodology that allows companies to maximize their time and effort in designing and implementing new products and services. Rooted in empathy, rapid prototyping, and collaboration, this methodology enables any member of a team to become a designer.

After experiencing Design Thinking, members of an organization not only have a standard methodology for innovation but a new mindset to face the challenges that their markets may bring. 

Wilson Rojas is a native of Chile and loves to think outside the box. He graduated with a bachelor’s in education from the University of Tarapaca, Chile, and a master’s in arts from the University of Northern Iowa. Currently, he works as an instructional designer and adjunct instructor at Kirkwood Community College. Also, he has presented at different conferences around Iowa. Wilson has a passion for helping people be innovative within their fields and find new ways to engage clients. 

Helena Long – 'Sticky' Training Using Action-Based Strategies

Statistics tell us that 80% of new skills are lost within one week of training if not used, and 87% of training is forgotten within one month of training.  This doesn’t have to be your reality!  Helena will show how training sessions can be designed using action-based strategies that will significantly change these numbers and ensure that you are seeing desired behavior changes from your associates – along with a favorable ROI from your training dollars.

Helena Long has more than 30 years of executive and management experience in Organization and Talent Development with an emphasis on strategic planning, leadership and professional development, HR systems and processes, employee engagement, and project management. In addition to her role as Vice-President of Leadership Development for JET Engineering Training & Consulting Services, she has held senior-level positions at Knox County Government, Rockwell Collins, and Kinze Manufacturing.

For 13 years Helena provided consulting services to Fortune 500 companies on a national and international level as well as to many small- to middle-sized companies in manufacturing, finance, education, and local governmental. Some of her clients included Dell, Motorola, Ford, Boeing, Target, Verizon, and Sprint.

Jeff Mitchell – Critical Ingredients to Quality Welding 

Producing quality welds assures product reliability and profitability.  Quality is determined by selecting the best process for an application; using correct filler metals and cover gasses; utilizing safe techniques for producing proper weld sizing and weld code compliant contouring, and company specific training for welders and weld supervisors.  Select from a robust menu of training options to best address your welding needs.     

Jeff Mitchell is an experienced welding instructor, teaching credit, non-credit, and customized training classes for more than 42 years. He enjoys helping enhance the lives and professional careers of his students. Jeff has qualified/certified over 20,000 welders throughout Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois following American Welding Society (AWS), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), API 1104, and military welding codes with associated development of welding procedures as required.

Jeff earned a master’s in higher education, a bachelor’s in technology, is an AWS Certified Welding Educator, and has been an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector for over 40 years. Additionally, he was awarded the prestigious American Welding Society’s Howard E. Adkins Award signifying AWS’s National Educator for the year 2016-2017.

Jennifer Murphy – Personal Leadership Model

Building on extensive research in leadership theory and practice, Jennifer Murphy will guide you through the basics of developing a personal leadership model and it’s supporting components to support your personal and organizational success.

Jennifer Murphy, owner of No Limits Life Empowerment Institute, focuses on developing people and processes to cultivate the effectiveness of each as both separate and collaborative entities in life and business. Her 20-year professional background includes roles as an Army Officer, logistics, business development, and strategic development leader in corporate America, an entrepreneurial leader of her own service-focused businesses, and an adjunct instructor for associate and bachelor’s degrees at two separate institutions. She has led organizations from three people to 400 and is highly invested in developing people and organizations to help them create their next steps.

Jennifer holds a bachelor’s in criminology and an MBA, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in executive leadership through the University of Charleston. She has certifications ranging from Microsoft Office Suite and Personal and Executive Coaching to Positive Psychology and spiritual healing.

Vijay Muralidaran – Using Augmented Reality in Training

Technology is making our world better, faster, and more organized. There has been lots of talk about using virtual reality and augmented reality (AR) in training. Now see how AR can actually be used in real work environments to let employees practice skills with instant feedback that compresses the learning curve, reduces costs, and improves quality. AR is also used as an everyday work “tool” that enables workers to quickly access rarely used information and know what to do to resolve problems.

Vijay is our subject matter expert on AR and he will showcase the capabilities of this new and exciting technology. You don’t want to miss this session.

Vijay Muralidaran is a Six Sigma Certified Black Belt who partners with all functional areas to lead a company’s strategy to deliver the best possible quality and customer experience. He has a proven background in combining the right expertise to drive outstanding results with lasting impact, encompassing alignment of strategy, top-line and bottom-line revenue, labor efficiency, and quality improvements.

Vijay earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Northern Iowa. He received a Master of Science in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering from North Dakota State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Instrumentation and Control Engineering from the University of Madras in India.
