Heavy Equipment Operator Training

10-Day Training for Women and Minorities

Receive free, interactive and hands-on training to start a rewarding, entry-level career with great income potential. This ten-day program will give you the basic skills and knowledge to safely operate heavy equipment and enter the high-demand construction industry as an entry-level equipment operator.

In this program you will learn about:

  • Equipment safety inspections
  • Personal protective gear
  • Safe operation of heavy equipment
  • Workplace safety principles

You will train using driving simulators as well as actual equipment including:

  • Wheel loaders
  • Forklifts
  • Skid steer loaders
  • Mini excavators

Starting Wages

Entry-level construction workers make approximately $28,000 annually in Iowa. Currently, Iowa has approximately 11% job demand increase in this field.

This program is free to individuals who qualify for the 10-day program.

To enroll in the program, you must complete the following steps.

  2. Complete an application [pdf].
  3. Once accepted into the program, you must attend your assigned orientation session.

  • Digging in proximity to underground utilities
