Pharmacy Technician

This short-term Pharmacy Technician program prepares students to be a professional pharmacy technician under the supervision of a certified pharmacist. In this course you will learn:

  • To assist the pharmacist filling prescriptions according to doctor’s orders
  • How to order products and maintain inventory
  • How to bill and receive payments

This hybrid course includes 112 hours of classroom instruction. You will be expected to spend four or more hours per week on online coursework.

Career Opportunities

Individuals completing the non-credit certificate may find employment as pharmacy technicians.

Admission Requirements

No admission requirements or entrance exam needed. A high school or equivalency diploma and a valid email address is required. 

Class Information

Class dates: September 10–December 17, 2020* on Monday and Thursday from 5:00–9:00pm. 
*No class November 26.
Class format: This class is a hybrid. It contains both classroom and online components.
Location: Main Campus–Buchanan Hall
Cost: $2,599 – includes textbook and certification exam approved by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy. Financial assistance may be available for qualifying individuals.
