Wrapping our minds around the concept of the power of choice and an attitude of gratitude reveals the positive influence we can have in our business and our own health and well-being. Combining their professional communication and speaking careers, Penny and Shelley motivate and challenge audiences to develop habits to create a positive mindset and outlook.

Penny O’Connor is a speech communication instructor at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. She teaches in the areas of first year inquiry, interpersonal communication and public speaking. While in the Cedar Valley, she was on the faculty of the University of Northern Iowa for 29 years, served as a volunteer for Cedar Valley Hospice and was active in the Waterloo Community Playhouse and Cedar Falls Community theatre, and also co-operated For Goodness Sake, a gift and home accent store in Waterloo.
She is a professional auctioneer and graduate of the World Wide College of Auctioneering and has been a leader for Weight Watchers for 25 years. She is a popular workshop presenter and keynote speaker, and provides training about listening and communications skills as well as other motivational topics to many groups and organizations.
Shelley Goecke is a marketing and communication leader with 30 years of experience inhealthcare and retail marketing management. She has held the position of Marketing and Public Relations Director for McFarland Clinic, a physician-owned, multi-specialty clinic for 20 years.
Shelley’s career expertise is in the areas of public speaking, brand marketing, digital advertising, events, media relations, and patient experience. Shelley is an Iowa native from LeGrand, Iowa. She received her bachelor’s degree in public relations and journalism from the University of Northern Iowa. Shelley competed on the University of Northern Iowa Speech Team earning the title of National Persuasive Speaking Champion by the American Forensic Association.
