Spring Semester Involvement

posted on Saturday, February 1, 2020 in  Parent Newsletter

The spring semester is a perfect time to encourage your student to get involved. They have a semester or two under their belt and are ready to be more involved. Hawkeye Community College has 30 active clubs and orgs to tempt your student with. Different clubs and organizations have tremendous added benefits from improving public speaking, to networking in their career of interest, or creating a new hobby! February 5th from 11am to 1pm in the Brock Student Center many of the clubs and organizations will be present during the Involvement Fair. It is a great chance to meet current students involved in each organization, win prizes, and learn more about the organizations purpose on campus.

Student Ambassadors help recruit and meet prospective students while Student Leadership Council is the voice of the student population. Both organizations will help with confidence, public speaking, and becoming familiar with the campus. As an added bonus, these organizations are paid and are a great way to have an on-campus position. If your student is interested in a career in Nursing, PTA, OTA, Dental Hygiene or Dental Assisting, or Web Development to name a few, there are clubs to further your student’s education and opportunities. Or perhaps your student is interested in the games or photography? There are clubs for these hobbies and interests as well as so many more! Remind them to stop by on February 5th and see these organizations in action.

February 11th is Hawkeye Night at the Waterloo Blackhawks Hockey Game! Students can pick up free ticket vouchers for the game or purchase discounted tickets at the box office. Student Leadership Council and Student Ambassadors will throw out free t-shirts and be involved in the puck drop. It is a great way to get the whole family out for a fun night of sports at a great price. Game starts at 7:05pm.

The weather may be dreary but we have plenty of options to keep your students involved while they are enrolled at Hawkeye Community College.
