Holiday Hoopla

As finals gear up stress can escalate. Student Life is preparing a Stress Down Week to help break up the studying and help your student have a bit of holiday cheer. Starting December 2nd, is the Holidays Around the World Scavenger Hunt. Each day a different artifact will be placed around the school. Have your student check social media to learn how different countries celebrate this time of year. If they locate the artifact and return it to Student Life, a prize will be given. The artifacts will get harder and harder to find as we get closer to break. It’s a fun way to learn with a quick activity.

The week of December 9th is officially Stress Down week with puppies, chair massages, and Holiday Hoopla. It’s the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the last-minute offerings this semester with a dose of self-care. Check social media for dates, times, and locations of all these great events.

As school ends for the semester, remind your student to keep their brain functioning during this break. Take time to relax and enjoy, but keep up on your studies. Challenge them to finish a book. Hawkeye Community College shared curriculum book is The Hate U Give. This controversy book leads our banned book event kick off as the book address issue of race, police brutality, and identity in modern times. After they finished, your student can compare and contrast with the film adaptation. It is a quick easy read that will help make the holiday break educational and fun. Even if this is not the book they select, encourage them to review course materials so they are ready for the return of school January 13th! Have a safe and Happy Holidays and we look forward to seeing your student next year.
