Fall Financial Aid and Paying for College

posted on Saturday, June 1, 2019 in  Parent Newsletter

Are you wondering what you can do over the summer to ensure your student has their financial aid in line for next year? Now is a great time to begin helping your student prepare for the 2019-2020 school year!

If your student has not yet filled out the 2019-2020 FAFSA application, it is available online at  or download the myStudentAid mobile app.

Once the FAFSA is submitted, approximately 30% of students are randomly selected for further verification.  Your student may need to submit more documentation to the Financial Aid Office before we can award them financial aid. Students can check this by logging into their MyHawkeye ► WebAdvisor for Students ► Financial Aid  ► New! Financial Aid Services.

Now is the time for your student to run their Academic Evaluation (Degree Audit) to determine their Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).  If your student is not maintaining a 2.0 GPA, or successfully completing 67% of their attempted courses, they could be placed on Financial Aid suspension. Students on suspension have the opportunity to appeal their suspension in an effort to regain their financial aid eligibility. Directions to run the Academic Evaluation:  MyHawkeye ► WebAdvisor for Students ► Academic Profile ► Academic Evaluation (Degree Audit).

Check with your student to determine if they have filled out a Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) release. Without a release on file, we can only talk with the student about their account. Your student can find this release on their My Hawkeye account ► WebAdvisor for Students ► Financial Aid ► New! Financial Aid Services or by visiting the Financial Aid Office.
