A Veterans Day Observe

posted on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in  Parent Newsletter

Dear Hawkeye Parents,

During the month of November Hawkeye Community College will recognize students, faculty, and staff who are veterans of the military service. A Veterans Day observance will take place on Monday, November 11 beginning with a Flag Raising Ceremony at 11:11am at the Flagpole outside of Hawkeye Center. At 12:15pm a ceremony will take place in Tama Hall. There will be a reception immediately following at approximately 12:45pm. We appreciate the sacrifices made by our veterans and this is one way our entire student body is involved in showing recognition. We currently have 215 Military and Veteran Students enrolled at Hawkeye. Please encourage your son or daughter to participate in this event.

Our Student Veterans Association will be hosting a "Train Like a Warrior" event on November 12th from 10:00am-2:00pm in the Health Education and Services Center. Anyone can drop by to try their hand at enduring the training with admission being a canned food donation. The event is to bring awareness to the culture and training that our service men and women receive, to have some competition and fun doing it, as well as a Food Drive for the Hawkeye Community College’s Little Free Pantry on campus and Black Hawk County VA's Food Pantry.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for guiding your son/daughter throughout their education. Navigating the college experience can be challenging, but with the support of family, these challenges are manageable. Spring 2020 registration begins on Monday, November 4 and students are encouraged to register early to get the best selection of courses and class times!

Thank you for your support of Hawkeye Community College.
