A Graduation Message from President, Dr. Allen

posted on Monday, April 1, 2019 in  Parent Newsletter

Dear Hawkeye Parents,

With Spring Break behind us, it’s time for students planning to graduate this May to begin watching their email closely for graduation deadlines and other related information. Our graduation ceremony will take place at the University of Northern Iowa McLeod Center on Friday, May 17 at 7:00pm. Rehearsal for graduation will take place at 12:20pm on Friday, May 17. Graduates should arrive at the McLeod Center by 6:00pm with their caps and gowns to line up for the commencement program. The doors for guests will open at 6:00pm and there will be no limits on guest seating or tickets needed.

Please encourage your son or daughter to attend the Grad Fair on Tuesday, April 16 from 10:00am-1:00pm at the Hawkeye Bookstore. At the Grad Fair, students will be able to purchase their cap, gown, and tassel (cost is $32 plus tax) and other graduation memorabilia. In addition, staff from the Financial Aid, Business Services, Records and Registration, and Student Services offices will be on hand to answer questions about graduation and the next steps.

Students who cannot attend the Grad Fair can purchase their cap, gown, and tassel beginning on Tuesday, April 16 from the Hawkeye Bookstore. Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, as verified by Student Life staff, will receive an honors medallion. It is the students’ responsibility to pick up medallions from the Student Life office in the Brock Student Center.

If your son or daughter plans to enter the workforce upon graduation, our Career Services Center is here to assist. Services include career counseling, resume and cover letter assistance, mock interviews, career search support, job postings, career fairs, and more. The Career Center is in Bremer Hall, Room 102.

For those students who will be returning in the Fall (or Summer), registration opened on March 25. We offer courses in a wide variety of schedules including 4, 6, or 8-week options as well as the popular 2-week Minimesters (May, August, and December). Courses are available face-to-face, online, and in a hybrid (combination) format to meet the needs and preferences of our students. Encourage your son or daughter to visit with his or her Student Success Specialist or someone in our Admissions office if they have questions or need additional information.

And, as always, thank you for your support of Hawkeye Community College.

Linda Allen, Ph.D.
