Student Art Exhibition Opens April 11

WATERLOO–Hawkeye Community College will kick off the 18th annual Student Art Exhibition with an opening reception Tuesday, April 11, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Library on Hawkeye’s Main Campus, 1501 East Orange Road, Waterloo. Awards will be announced at 7:00 p.m.

Jurist for the show is Heather Skeens, former director of the Anderson Gallery at Drake University. Skeens has a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Art History from the University of Iowa and a Master of Arts in History from Iowa State University, specializing in American history and visual culture. She was an adjunct art history instructor at Drake University and is now marketing strategist for the Cedar Valley Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. She is also involved with Junior League and the Cedar Falls Public Art Committee.

The show will feature works by students in Graphic Communications, Professional Photography, Digital Mass Media, and Welding programs, as well as other fine arts courses. The reception will also feature projects by Hawkeye honors program students and unveiling of the latest edition of ETC, Hawkeye’s literary and arts magazine.

The Student Art Exhibition will be on display through May 5 during regular Library hours: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.; Friday, 7:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, 12:00-8:00 p.m.
