Manager Begins Duties at Hawkeye’s Waverly and Western Outreach Centers

WATERLOO—Angie Vyverberg Chaplin of Waverly has joined Hawkeye Community College as the manager of two centers – the Waverly Outreach Center and the Western Outreach Center. Chaplin’s duties include managing the daily operations of the centers, supervision of staff and volunteers, and the coordination of programs and activities. Chaplin will be a liaison for the college in the communities the centers serve and will be involved in outreach efforts in identifying community needs.

The Waverly Outreach Center is located at Willow Lawn Mall, 215 20th Street NW. Six school districts are served by the center, including Denver Community Schools, Janesville Schools, Tripoli Community Schools, Sumner-Fredericksburg Community Schools, Wapsie Valley Community Schools, and Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools. This center offers college credit courses for high school students, GED classes, career education, and continuing education. Additionally, Hawkeye offers business training services. Last spring more than 314 students from six school districts in Bremer County took a college-level course through Hawkeye, saving families more than $177,100 in college tuition. More than 777 graduates from Bremer County have earned a college degree from Hawkeye since 2007.

The Western Outreach Center is located at 17040 Market Avenue in Holland. Four school districts are served by the center, including Aplington-Parkersburg Schools, Dike-New Hartford Community Schools, Gladbrook-Reinbeck Community Schools, and Grundy Center Community Schools. The center offers college credit courses, career education plus workforce and community services. Last year more than 139 students from four school districts took a college-level course at Hawkeye’s Western Outreach Center, saving families more than $105,000 in college tuition. More than 467 graduates from Grundy County have earned a college degree from Hawkeye since 2007.

Chaplin brings experience, skills, and talents to the position. An involved community member, she holds a position on the Waverly Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors and the Buena Vista University National Alumni Association Board of Directors. She is a recognized expert in leadership development as a speaker, consultant, facilitator, and educator. She has experience in higher education as an instructor for Wartburg College and Seton Hall University, a staff member at Buena Vista University and a facilitator for several institutions around the country. In addition, she has more than two decades of service in nonprofits, businesses, government and higher education. Chaplin holds a master’s degree in strategic communication and leadership from Seton Hall with a bachelor’s degree in communication and public relations from Buena Vista.
