Next Steps After You've Applied
Please send the following official transcripts* to the Admissions office:

Official high school transcripts* showing graduation and/or GED or HiSET scores. You must be a high school graduate or equivalent to enroll in a program/major. View our High School Diploma Verification Process.

If you have taken college-level classes and would like to receive possible credit, you will need to have your previous college(s) send an official college transcript*.

Military transcripts. See military branch transcript request websites.
* Transcripts (high school, college, and GED/HiSET scores) are considered official only when sent from institute to institute or from an approved, secure third-party agency. (i.e National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment). Transcripts hand delivered, even if in a sealed envelope, will be considered unofficial.
Official high school and college transcripts received since 2008 should already be on file with the college. Contact Admissions if you have questions about previously submitted transcripts and assessment scores.
Demonstrate College Readiness
All students must demonstrate they are ready for college prior to admittance.
Acceptable options include:
- High school GPA
- GED/HiSet scores
- ACCUPLACER assessment scores
- COMPASS assessment scores
- ACT scores
- SAT scores

Program Specific Admission Requirements
The following programs have specific course placement assessment scores, prerequisite coursework, and/or additional admissions requirements that you will need to complete for acceptance into the program.
Hawkeye requires all students to take a course placement assessment before registering for any math or literacy course. Your assessment scores will be used to place you in coursework at Hawkeye.
Hawkeye accepts the following assessments for course placement.
- ALEKS Online Math Readiness Assessment
- ACCUPLACER (Next Generation and Classic)
- COMPASS
- ACT

If you need to take a course placement assessment, Hawkeye offers the ACT and ACCUPLACER assessment or you can take the ALEKS Math Readiness Assessment online.

Hawkeye offers eligible students federal and state financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans, and Work-Study, based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The application deadline for State of Iowa funds is July 1.
File your FAFSA
Scholarships are available to help you pay for educational expenses and, unlike student loans, do not need to be repaid.
Hawkeye awards more than $3 million in scholarships every year. Complete the Hawkeye Scholarship Application by February 1 for fall semester awards and October 1 for spring semester awards.
The Last-Dollar Scholarship can cover up to 100% of tuition and fees for 20+ high-demand career programs. To apply, submit your FAFSA and enroll in a qualifying program.

Transferring Credits to Hawkeye
Hawkeye works with two local apartment complexes located across the street from Main Campus to offer students affordable housing options within walking distance of their classes. Hawkeye students also have the option of living in the University of Northern Iowa residence halls.
