Students seeking a major in one of the above areas must first be admitted to the College of Humanities, Arts, and Sciences at UNI.

Major Specific Courses and Requirements

This tip sheet is meant for students completing coursework towards the Associate of Arts (AA) degree prior to transferring to the University or Northern Iowa.

Note:

Degrees, admission requirements, and suggested electives for each major within the College of Humanities, Arts, and Sciences vary. We encourage you to work closely with your Hawkeye advisor and your UNI advisor to plan the courses you need to take at Hawkeye to transfer to the major of your choice.

Students must have a C- or higher grade in any class used for the major.

For Bachelor of Fine Arts, students need a 3.00 minimum GPA in Art and an overall GPA minimum of 2.75

Liberal Arts Core

Students completing the Associate of Arts degree, following the specifications of the community college and meeting all conditions of the articulation agreement, will meet the UNI Liberal Arts Core (LAC) requirements with the following exceptions:

  1. CAPSTONE must be completed at UNI after transfer.

  2. A course in NON-WESTERN CULTURES must be completed either at the community college or at UNI.

  3. FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT (for students graduating from high school or earning a GED in 1989 and later). Two years of the same high school foreign language are required with C- or better in the last term, or the student may take two semesters of the same foreign language in college with a C- or better in the second course. This requirement may be met by FLS-151 Spanish I and FLS-152 Spanish II.
