Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway Academy Camp

Ignite your student’s interest in STEM subjects! Hawkeye’s Gateway Academy camp is designed for students entering 7th and 8th grade. It utilizes PLTW’s project-based, hands-on, and real-world problem-solving approach to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning.

When: June 16-20
Presented by: Hawkeye Community College
Where: Middle schools in Grundy Center, Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Dike, Independence, and East Buchanan.

CSI Camp

Interested in solving a crime? Step into the shoes of a crime scene investigator and learn how to identify and gather evidence. Work together to collect fingerprints and use them to find suspects. Participate in a mock crime scene investigation and learn the techniques of using a microscope to identify hairs, fibers, and other forms of trace evidence in hopes of cracking the case.

When: June 23-25, 2014 8:30am - Noon 9-12 years of age

Multi-Media Camp

Do you like taking pictures? Have you ever wanted to record music or make a movie? Here’s your chance! Learn the basics of capturing that perfect photo and discover the exciting process that goes into making your own movie and recording music for production.

When: July 14-17, 2014 8:30am - Noon 9-12 years of age
12:30 - 4:00pm 13-16 years of age
Where: Hawkeye Community College Main Campus – Black Hawk Hall

Swords and Shakespeare Camp

Swords and Shakespeare Camp is a four-day theater camp for students who want to learn more about the art of theatre. Campers will work with director Alan Malone and members of the Hawkeye Drama Club learning acting, safe and effective stage combat techniques, and text analysis for the actor.

When: July 14-17, 2014 8:30am - Noon 13-16 years of age
12:30 - 4:00pm 9-12 years of age
Where: Hawkeye Community College Main Campus – Brock Student Center
Performance: Students will perform selections from Shakespeare’s Henry V the last hour of their session on Thursday, July 17.
Cost: $60

Math Camp

Cheez-Its™ Math, Candy Shop Fractions, and Water Balloon Facts! Who knew math could be SO FUN? Keep third, fourth, and fifth grade math concepts and skills strong over the summer using fun, hands-on, interactive games.

When: July 14, 16, and 18, 2014 8:00 - 10:00am 9-11 years of age
10:00am - Noon 6-8 years of age

Spanish Language Camp

Explore the Spanish language and gain knowledge of the Spanish culture through photos, stories, music, games, and dances. Be introduced to the Spanish language including proper pronunciation, the alphabet, common nouns, phrases, numbers, and colors. Camp won’t be complete without a fiesta with traditional food, decorations, and a piñata!

When: July 14, 16, and 18, 2014 8:00 - 10:00am 6-8 years of age
10:00am - Noon 9-11 years of age

Science Camp

Learn about science through interactive and hands-on activities from trained and dynamic instructors. Discover some of the wonder and curiosities in biology, physics, and chemistry by conducting amazing and cool science experiments in a real college lab classroom.

When: July 21, 23, and 25, 2014 2:30-4:30pm 9-11 years of age
