Who is eligible for accommodations?

Any individual with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities is eligible for accommodations.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Epilepsy
  • Hard of Hearing
  • Anxiety
  • Autism
  • Ehlers Danlos Syndrome
  • Learning Disability
  • Cancer
  • ADHD
  • Depression
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Visual Impairment
  • Spina Bifida
  • History of IEP or 504 Plan

What Are Accommodations?

An accommodation is an alteration to the academic environment to ensure students with disabilities have equal access to course materials, information, activities, programs, and campus facilities.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Digital/Audio textbooks
  • Extended testing time
  • Access to Power Points
  • Tests read aloud
  • Individual setting for testing
  • Recording lectures
  • Sign language interpreters
  • Captioning
  • Option to take breaks
  • Speech-to-Text software

Hawkeye utilizes Relay Iowa, a telecommunications service providing full telephone accessibility to people who are deaf, hard of hearing, and/or speech impaired.

January 3 – May 10, 2024
Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm

If campus is closed, the Student Accessibility Services Office is also closed. This includes weather-related closings. See the Academic Calendar for scheduled college closings.
