Counselor Privacy and Your Rights

All information shared with a counselor is held in the strictest confidence unless:

• you contemplate injuring yourself or other people

• you committed or intend to commit a crime or harmful act

• a court issues a subpoena demanding release of information

Counselors strictly adhere to the Iowa Mandatory Reporter requirements and the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics.

Your academic records are kept confidential and are protected by the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA).
