Federal and State Tuition Assistance Programs

State Tuition Assistance approvals will be received in the Financial Aid office and payment will be credited to your student account.

Financial Aid, once completed, will be forwarded to the Business office for payment on your account.

Any excess funds will go out to students, at the earliest, 30 days into the semester after attendance is collected and may be prorated according to attendance received.

Iowa Air/Army National Guard Members

State Tuition Assistance

Apply for State Tuition Assistance annually for Fall/ Spring semesters

• Select Army or Air Education
• Select IA Tuition Assistance

The Iowa College Student Aid Commission will notify Hawkeye of your eligibility for the State Tuition Assistance and the funds will be dispersed to the school to be applied to your tuition.

Federal Tuition Assistance

Army National Guard may apply for Federal Tuition Assistance each semester.

1. Apply online at www.iowanationalguard.com/Education/GoArmyEd.htm

2. Create an Account (best to use email other than AKO).

3. Complete the Common Application.

4. Print off Statement of Understanding (SOU) and secure a Commander signature.

5. Upload the following documents into eFile on GOARMYED site.

   1. Statement of Understanding (SOU) and with Commander signature

   2. Your Degree Plan found in My Hawkeye > My WebAdvisor (SOAR).

6. Gather the following documents for the next step of the application:

   1. A schedule or your courses found in My Hawkeye > My WebAdvisor (SOAR).

   2. Course charges. Contact the Financial Aid office or the Business Services office for this document.

7. Select Request Tuition Assistance.

8. Individually input each course and required information (will need above documents (schedule of classes with dates/days/meeting times and charges per course-tuition and fees).

9. Once you have received an approval email, print the approved authorization form and take it to the Financial Aid office. This is required for the payment to be billed to the Army.

The Iowa College Student Aid Commission will notify Hawkeye of your eligibility for the State Tuition Assistance and the funds will be dispersed to the school to be applied to your tuition.

The Federal application will be sent to your AKO account once approved.

You must have this process completed 14 days into the semester.

You may not receive both the Federal TA and Post 9/11 GI Bill to pay toward tuition and fees.

Army Reservist

Application for Federal Tuition Assistance can be found through two sites:

1. www.iowanationalguard.com: This is the preferred method as there are step by step instructions. Be sure to follow all steps.
   • Select Army Education Select > GoArmyEd
2. Or you may go directly to www.goarmyed.com.

Once you have received an approval email, print the approved authorization form and take it to the Financial Aid office.
