Credits by Examination
Individuals who have acquired their education in a variety of ways, can demonstrate their academic achievements through credit by examination. Credit may be given for college level experience, demonstrated by acceptable test results, regardless of how the knowledge was acquired, except where college credit has been previously granted or attempted. Hawkeye Community College recognizes credit by examination as a valid means of granting college credit. This is also an opportunity for students to shorten their program of study. Credit by examination is limited to 30 credit hours per student. Students may receive credit through: - Advanced Placement (AP) program of the College Board
- selective tests of the College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
- evaluation of military courses
- locally designed examinations administered by Hawkeye. A fee will be assessed for test administration and transcript recording. Registered or enrolled students must complete test out procedures prior to the end of the first week of class. Comprehensive exams offered after the first week of class are considered to be final examinations.
Credit by Examination Awarded by Another College or UniversityCredit may be awarded for previous exam or test out credits from another college or university. The exam must be transcripted by the granting college or university with a catalog number, course title, and credit hours. If exam information on a transcript is insufficient, students may be required to provide additional documentation to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
