Group Fitness Classes

Group fitness classes are a great way to add variety to your workout routine and have fun with friends while getting in shape!

Student Life is offering the following fitness opportunities.

Group Fitness Classes May 14 - June 1, 2012

Classes are an three-week session in the Health Education and Services Center.

Registration for group fitness classes go on sale Monday, May 7 at the Health Education and Services Center.

Pass cards are $5 for students and $10 for employees.

Participants can attend any and/or all classes with the purchased class pass card. Classes are first come first serve until the class limit is met; only 20 participants for all classes except Indoor Cycling which has a 10 person limit.

Classes begin the week of Monday, May 14, and run through Friday, June 1, 2012.

Yoga Boot Camp Indoor Cycling Absolutely Muscle    

Boot Camp

For those who want to improve overall strength, cardiovascular ability, and take their workout to the next level! This class is designed for total body conditioning. Classes consist of sports agility training, resistance lifting, functional training, plyometrics, core stability, and athletic components. The instructor helps you work to your own level.

Level: Beginner to Intermediate

STRENGTH

This class meets two days a week and combines low intensity with high intensity workouts. The class incorporates drills to enhance speed, agility, strength, flexibility, power and quickness. No two classes will ever be the same so no worries about getting bored when you attend STRENGTH.

Yoga

"Inhale strength, exhale stress"
Discover a workout that can make profound changes in body, mind, and spirit that no other exercise can bring. Yoga workouts combine deep breathing, stretching, strength, balance, cardiovascular exercise and a meditation/"cool down" session.

Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Indoor Cycling

If your workout could use some variety, indoor cycling might be just the change you need. Regular spinning incinerates calories, increases stamina, and helps develop toned, strong legs. Together, imagine travel on flat roads, climb hills, sprint and race! It is truly a fantastic cardiovascular class.

*Class size is limited to only 10 participants.

Absolutely Muscle

This class will get you pumping iron in no time using free weights, resistance bands, stability ball, and more!! Get full body toning for strength and stamina.

Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Walk and Tone

Grab your shoes and bring a friend! Class incorporates walking intervals with strength training exercises for a full body workout. Walking takes place on the indoor track and treadmills. Weather permitting class will be outdoors.

Sign-Up for Your Group Fitness Class

All participants must sign the Health Education and Services Center Waiver and present a current Hawkeye Card ID.

Space is limited. Only 20 participants are allowed in each class, with only ten allowed in the Indoor Cycling class.

Must have at least six participants to hold a class.

These classes are NOT reimbursable through the college.

There are no refunds after registration. See the Health Education and Services Center policies for details.

On the first day of class:

  • arrive a few minutes early
  • present your Hawkeye Card student/employee ID at the front desk
  • bring a clean pair of non-marking athletic shoes
  • inform the instructor of any previous injuries

Level Descriptions

Beginner: This class is great if you are new to fitness classes, are looking for a lower intensity non-impact class, or working out with a chronic condition.

Beginner to Intermediate: Mixed level classes progresses from beginner to intermediate exercises. Modifications are offered.

Intermediate: Take it to the next level with this style of class. Work at challenging your fitness level at each class.
