Smoking and the use of all forms of tobacco are banned on the entire Hawkeye Community College campus. Hawkeye considers it in the best interest of the College to provide a tobacco-free environment in public educational facilities for students, employees, and visitors. All individuals are prohibited from using tobacco inside any College-owned or leased building, vehicle, or on College grounds.

This program offers the support to help you quit smoking today!
Freedom from Smoking is a cessation program that provides individuals a supportive and structure approach to quit smoking. Sponsored by the American Lung Association, the program uses a variety of evidence-based approaches to quitting. Individuals who participated in this program had a higher quit rate than individuals who tried to quit on their own.
The program consists of eight online sessions over an eight week period. Program facilitaors and the Student Health Clinc are available for support inbetween sessions.
Three sessions focus on the planning and preparation for quitting. Other sessions focus on providing skills and support to help participants stay smoke free. Participants will learn strategies on how to avoid situations that may lead them to smoking and how to handle cravings. Some of the topics include:

This program is offered through the convenience of Hawkeye's Angel online class system. Individuals receive the feel of a group atmosphere and the flexibility to accomadate their schedule.
