Student-athletes must maintain school requirements in order to participate in cross country. Every player must apply themselves to their fullest potential in each and every class. If your grades begin fall below a 2.0 GPA and the school feels you need to spend more time after school making up the work, you will not be allowed to practice or play in games until all grades are brought back up to schools acceptable grade point average. The coach will get updates from the school on the status of the student-athlete GPA's. If you concentrate on your classes and work hard to maintain the highest grades possible this will help improve the teams GPA. Academics are first then Cross Country.
As a player you will be expected to attend each and every training session and meet. If you cannot make it to practice or a game, it is your responsibility to inform the coach about your absence in advance.
TRAINING SESSIONS: Begin promptly as given to you in the schedule. All equipment will need to be in place and warm-ups will begin promptly.
MEETS: We will be at the course at least one hour prior to start.
Club leaders will be selected by the coaches and advisors. A club leader must be a good leader, keep the team enthusiastic, and be a good role model - both on the field and off. Club leaders are also the people in charge of the Cross Country Club and its operation.
If you have a question/concern, please use the following procedure to address them.
Please be honest with your concern. If you feel there is any problem of danger or safety to any teammates please contact the coach or the advisor immediately. If the concern has upset you, take time to calm down. We do not want anyone feeling they should not talk to the coach but sometimes when emotions are high the concern cannot be handled in the appropriate way. We are here for your safety. We will do all we can to protect every player and let you know you are safe and can trust us. No concern or question should go untold.
If an emergency occurs, DO NOT PANIC. All student-athletes will need to respond to the directions given to them. A cell phone will be in the coach's bag. If there is no cell phone then go to the nearest phone and make the call.
Before the first meet, you will be issued a meet top and shorts. These are to be worn only at the meets. Any lost or damaged items will be charged to you.
Goals, meaning you as an individual and as a team, are a necessity. These goals will help us work harder. We all want to achieve our goals so we will all have to work hard and together to accomplish our highest goals for this season.
Cross Country is a great sport. You will be expected to be attentive and practice hard. Our team will offer unparalleled opportunities for learning the meaning of sportsmanship by actual participation as well as provide unforgettable experiences and the chance to develop life-long friendships. You will never forget the fun of competition, the joy in being successful, and the feeling of working hard.
All injuries must be attended to. Small cuts and blisters can be treated with the first aid kit. All muscle injuries must be iced immediately, no matter how slight the pain. Icing 20 minutes on, 10 minutes off for the first 48 hours. Each injury will be evaluated. If the coach feels you need medical attention you will not be allowed back to practice and/or games until the coach has received a medical release from your doctor. REPORT ALL INJURIES TO THE COACH.
Knowing about nutrition and eating right is an importaint part of running. What you eat can have a dramatic effect on your running performance, so it is very worthwhile to devote some thought to what you put into your body when you are expecting it to perform well.
Good sportsmanship will be demonstrated at all times. There will be NO foul language, trash talk, dissent to any player, official, spectator, or coach. All players will perform to the best of their ability with the help of each other. Good sportsmanship will make you a better player.
Remember: The Referees Ref, The Spectators Cheer, The Players Play, and The Coaches Coach.
Everyone out for cross country is your team member. All members will respect each other. There will be NO disrespect shown in any form!
We will run in all weather except hail, lightning, storm warnings, and snow storms. Dress for the weather.
All college policies are in effect. See the Student Handbook for further details. There also will be a discussion with the coach about the consequences.
