The Administrative Assistant program helps students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude of proficient office workers and prepares students for a variety of duties necessary to run an organization efficiently. They serve as an information manager; plan and schedule meetings and appointments; organize and maintain both paper and electronic files; manage projects; conduct research; and provide information by using the telephone, postal mail, and email. They may also handle travel arrangements.
Students are required to complete on-the-job training at local businesses and organizations. This ensures the students possess the skills necessary to successfully obtain a job as an Administrative Assistant upon graduation.
Students in the Business Department can become members of International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). Through the IAAP student chapter, students learn and practice leadership, teamwork, organization, and communication skills. The Victory Chapter of IAAP also awards qualifying student IAAP members scholarships each year.
The Administrative Assistant program can be completed in three semesters. Students may enter the program in the Fall or Spring semester.
Office technology programs offer flexibility. Many courses are also required in other business programs, allowing a student to double major or transfer into a different program. Students in the Administrative Assistant program interested in continuing their education should visit with a program advisor.
