The Police Science program provides students with the basic knowledge of criminal justice and training to perform duties and tasks in public safety, crime prevention, and criminal investigation.
Students gain hands-on experience working through real-life scenarios and classroom projects. Students are trained in patrol procedures, criminal justice, criminology, constitutional law, traffic investigation, defense tactics, firearms, physical activity, and wellness.
Hawkeye offers the eight-week Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Certification School twice a year. This academy allows departments with new officers having completed an AAS Police Science program to finish their training.
The Police Science program is a two year program. Students enter in the Fall semester and graduate after completing the Spring semester the following year.
