The Dental Hygiene program provides stimulating and rigorous classroom and clinical experience in Hawkeye’s Dental Clinic. Students are trained in oral and dental hygiene, natural sciences, clinical sciences, community health, and professional development.
Students train in Hawkeye's new state-of-the-art Dental Clinic featuring 18 patient chairs, computerized patient record software, wireless computer stations, and a complete digital x-ray system. The clinic is open to the public.
Dental hygienists provide educational, clinical, and therapeutic services to the public focusing on disease prevention and health promotion. They also help patients develop and maintain good oral health.
Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) is the designation for the licensed professional. The state license and the RDH credential assure the public and other professionals that you have successfully completed a nationally accredited dental hygiene program, a national written examination, and a state or regional clinical examination.
The Dental Hygiene program at Hawkeye is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) is the designation of a licensed professional.
The Dental Hygiene program is four semesters and one summer session and begins in the Fall semester.
