The Computer Networking Technician program is a one-year program that focuses on computer and operating systems configurations, diagnostics, and repair. This program is designed to directly transfer into one of Hawkeye's two-year Associate of Applied Science degree programs, giving students some flexibility to decide where they want to go after graduation.
Students study hardware, operating systems, and networking concepts. Students gain hands-on experience in installation, troubleshooting, and repair of all internal components. They study desktop operating systems including Microsoft Windows XP and Linux. Networking concepts include Microsoft Server installation and maintenance as well as concepts in switches and routers. Hawkeye is a CISCO Academy providing access to the latest technology and curriculum. The classroom experience is designed to prepare students for their CISCO CCNA and CompTIA A+ Certification.
Hawkeye's Information Technology programs are located in the newly constructed addition of Black Hawk Hall. The Information Technology lab equipment, environment, and technology are state-of-the-art.
The Computer and Network Technician program is two semesters in length. Students enter in the Fall semester and graduate after completing the following Spring semester. Please contact the Information Technology Department at 319-296-4021 to discuss other starting semester options.
The one-year Computer Networking Technician program coursework is designed to allow students the option to continue their studies and pursue an AAS degree in Hawkeye's Network Administration and Engineering program or Information Systems Management program.
