The Automated Systems Technology program prepares students for a career and employment in a broad range of manufacturing, food processing, and business environments. Students gain an in-depth knowledge of electricity and electronics, fluid power, mechanical systems, and manufacturing processes. Students learn through hands-on training utilizing state-of-the-art equipment used in today's business. Students must complete the Electromechanical Maintenance Technology Program before starting the Automated Systems program.
The demand for technical maintenance personnel is very high. Hawkeye has a unique training partnership with John Deere to train and hire individuals from this program. Scholarships sponsored by various companies are available to students of the Automated Systems Technology program through the Financial Aid office.
The Automated Systems Technology program may be completed in two years or five semesters. These five semesters include the required coursework from the Electromechanical Maintenance Technology program. Students must begin the program in the Fall semester.
Hawkeye Community College has a block articulation with the University of Northern Iowa Department of Industrial Technology to transfer both general education and technical credits. For more information on transferring credits, talk to a program advisor.
