CNC Machine Technology

The CNC Machining Technician program provides students the opportunity to acquire basic and intermediate skills in the areas of computer numerical control (CNC), computer aided drafting (CAD), and computer aided manufacturing (CAM). Students gain hands-on experience in the operation of precision machine tools; engine lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, and computer controlled electrical discharge machines (EDM).

Partnerships

The demand for CNC machinists is very high. Hawkeye has a unique training partnership with John Deere to train and hire individuals from this program. Hawkeye has a partnership with many local area high schools and local businesses through EMC² (Exploring Manufacturing Careers Consortium) to facilitate a schoolto-work program.

You'll Learn...

  • Computer Numerical Control (CNC)
  • programming and operation
  • Computer Aided Machining (CAM)
  • set-up and operation of lathes, mills, and grinders
  • geometric dimension and tolerancing

Length of Study

The CNC Machining Technician program is either three semesters (diploma) or four semesters (AAS degree) in length. Students enter in the Fall semester. Please contact the Industrial, Engineering & Information Technology Department at 319-296-4009 to discuss other starting semester options.

Transfer Information

Hawkeye's Industrial and Engineering Technology Department has a block articulation with the University of Northern Iowa Department of Industrial Technology to transfer both general education and technical credits. For more information on transferring credits, talk to a program advisor.
