Death & Dying on-line (Hawkeye Community College)

ADEC-Related Information 

This course covers the body of knowledge required for the CT exam including background on historical, contemporary and cross-cultural perspectives on death and dying.  The course also focuses on the dying process, loss and grief, life-span issues, inflicted death, interventions, ethics and legal issues concerning death & dying.

 

Three college credits - 45 hours towards the certificate. ADEC's Certified in Thanatology (CT) requires 60 contact hours of thanatology-related education. (ADEC is the Association for Death Education and Counseling) This course is registered with ADEC.

 

This educational offering is recognized by the Association for Death Education and Counseling to meet the thanatology-related contact hour requirement to be Certified in Thanatology: Death, Dying, and Bereavement. This course was created and functions with the continued support of Lynne Ann DeSpelder.

 There are no prerequisites.

*If you are taking the exam in November, you can take the Fall class. The candidate will submit the application by October 2 to ADEC and include this course with a note it is to be completed by 10/16.  ADEC will give a tentative approval to sit for the exam pending official notification of satisfactory completion (a D or better). (If any questions about this ask Emily Boryszewski (ADEC secretary) eboryszewski@adec.org
