Personal Biography
I was a police officer for nearly 16 years with the Waterloo Police Department. I had to retire in 1991 because of injuries received during an arrest on October 31, 1986, in which I was assaulted by three subjects. The injuries were to my back, spine, and pelvic area. Finally in 1991, the problem progressed to the point that I was no longer able to perform my duties and was forced to retire on a medical disability, being classified as 60 to 70 percent permanently disabled.
In 1992, I went back to school at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), completing my minor in Sociology. I applied for graduate school and was accepted, beginning in the Summer Semester of 1992. December 16, 2000, I graduated from UNI with my Masters in Sociology.
At the present time, I am single-again. I have two children, a son and daughter, along with five grandsons, Brett, Carter, Dillion, Riley, and Evan.
Activities that I enjoy doing are weight lifting, golf, walking, reading, and dancing. Because of the back problem, I can no longer lift heavy, but I still can manage a 300 yard drive on the golf course.
