Medical Assistant Instructor

MON7 JOB SUMMARY: Hawkeye Community students are prepared in a variety of settings including our on-site laboratory/clinical settings that are fully equipped to prepare them for patient care. This includes our multimillion dollar, state-of-the-art simulation center complete with Pyxis station, Docucare EMR system, IV simulators, and eight basic and advanced interactive patient simulators including adult, pediatric, neonatal, and maternal models. This is a full-time position providing high-quality classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to the students of the Medical Assistant Programs. Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, on-line). A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical. Necessary skills for this position include the ability to formulate and maintain curriculum for assigned courses, employ instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assess student progress on a regular basis, and provide progress reports as required. Experience with or commitment to various instructional modalities such as computer-mediated instruction is essential. Beyond instructional responsibility, this position requires advising and providing leadership to students. This individual will be expected to demonstrate exemplary teamwork and communication skills with supervisors, program faculty, the Advisory Committee, other divisions of the College, and the community. Leadership opportunities are available in the following areas: expanding and integrating curriculum with virtual simulations and alternate delivery formats; direction of clinical experience, including external sites; developing continuing/professional education offerings; grant projects; program promotion; advising and mentoring; and initiatives to increase enrollment of nontraditional students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Special training and 6,000 hours of recent, relevant work experience. Ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, staff, and the public. Ability to apply teaching skills, motivate and interest students, be personable and professional, and be able to learn and apply new concepts and ideas. Preferences include a related Bachelor’s degree in the area or related are of study or occupational area, one year of teaching experience, instruction in educational theory and techniques, and experience in an ambulatory setting.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Twelve-month contractual position beginning no later than July 1, 2017. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution).
