Digital Mass Media Instructor

MON7 JOB SUMMARY: This is a full-time position teaching in digital mass media. The primary instructional assignments will include courses in basic video production, cinematography, commercial video, film editing, audio recording and production, and other digital mass media courses as assigned. The focus of course contents will include digital video camera operations, video production, video editing, narrative format, and video set procedures for production, audio recording and production, and live internet broadcasting concept development and distribution over multiple digital formats. Additional course content is based on knowledge and experience with Adobe’s Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Movie Magic and other leading video and audio editing software. Major responsibilities include planning and guiding the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects for student implementation. Other responsibilities include active participation as a department member with a focus on student learning, facilitating discipline related activities, assessment of student achievement, student academic advising, and department committee assignments. Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, on-line, ICN). A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical. This individual will maintain cooperative relationships with the Dean, other faculty, all divisions of the College, prospective employers, and the community. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors’ degree in the discipline or special training and 6,000 hours of recent, relevant work experience. Relevant work experience should include work as camera and sound technician, stage manager and/or producer and experience with the maintenance and database inventory of cinema equipment. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, staff, and the public. Must have the ability to apply teaching skills, motivate and interest students, be personable and professional, and be able to learn and apply new concepts and ideas in the curriculum delivery. Preferences include experience using various industry software; teaching experience at the community college; membership in related professional organizations; the technical planning, logistics and production of live event internet broadcasting; and a Master’s Degree.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Nine-month contractual position beginning in August of 2017. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution).
