Alternative Energy Technology Instructor

JOB SUMMARY: Hawkeye Community College is seeking qualified applicants for an Alternative Energy Instructor position. Instructional areas will include but are not limited to electrical fundamentals photo-voltaic system sizing and installation, small and large wind turbine maintenance and installation, solar thermal heating sizing and installation, solar and wind energy site analysis. It is expected that the instructor will teach at various times, days, sites (high schools, outreach centers), and within various formats (face-to-face, on-line, ICN). A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical and, when necessary, evening and weekend teaching assignments may be required. Other responsibilities include active participation as a department member with a focus on student learning, facilitating discipline-related activities, assessment of student achievement, student academic advising and department committee assignments. This individual will be expected to demonstrate exemplary teamwork skills and communication skills with students, supervisors, program faculty, the Advisory Committee, other divisions of the College, and the community.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications are three years (6,000 hours) of work experience and training in one or more of the sustainable energy fields. Preferences include related associate's degree, large wind turbine technician work experience, and renewable energy maintenance and construction work experience. Applicants must have the ability to communicate with students, staff, and the public.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Nine-month contractual position. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution).
