JOB SUMMARY: This individual develops marketing strategies based on target market and college research. Writes copy for various mediums including printed brochures, direct mail, website, email, e-newsletters, blogs, radio, video, etc. Measures effectiveness of marketing/communication efforts and adjusts plan accordingly. Assists in database management for targeted marketing efforts. Assists in developing messages through the use of video, photography, and graphics. Assists in improving search engine optimization on the college website. Assists in the development of electronic communications including email, Hawkeye’s mobile website, text messaging, and QR codes. Assists in developing online ads and landing pages. Measures the effectiveness of electronic communications and makes recommendations on future applications. Assists in developing a nurturing campaign with inquiries and leads from the website. Assists in developing and executing a social media plan. Assists in measurement of social media on the overall College marketing efforts. Works closely with the college’s graphic designer, webmaster, and other staff. Continually researches and recommends new ways to communicate with students and end-users. Assists with special projects, events, and other assignments. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field. Minimum of one year of experience working in a marketing, public relations, communications office, or a web-related department. Experience in developing a marketing plan and executing a campaign. Must be able to write for different mediums including print, web, news, electronic messages, etc. Must be able to manage multiple projects, working daily with deadline-driven materials, and coordinating heavy workloads. Strong understanding of printed materials. Understanding of search engine optimization. Ability to analyze web statistics and web traffic patterns. Must have excellent skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Must possess good presentation skills. Must be an active participant in social media. Must have excellent verbal communication skills. Must be detail orientated and have good proofreading skills. Must be a team player, a self-starter, and results driven. Must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and vendors as well as the general public. Preferences include experience with graphics software, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop; and knowledge of HTML, Dreamweaver, and/or content management software.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-time position opening with a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution). Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience.
