JOB SUMMARY: This individual makes personal visits to companies and sponsoring entities to identify training needs, including apprenticeships and sponsorships. Markets Hawkeye Community College continuing education, workforce, and economic development programs to companies and communities. Participates with other staff in the coordination and set-up of equipment, facilities, and scheduling of instructors and personnel to provide training at company and college locations. Assists instructors with selection and customization of curriculum and materials to ensure applicable guidelines are met. Communicates and coordinates with contract training staff for times, lengths, and locations of classes after company needs assessment has been developed. Coordinates the delivery of general public offerings and multi-company training programs. Participates with college staff in the preparation training programs that meet state and federal requirements for the delivery of workforce development initiatives. Collaborates with college staff to design, implement, and evaluate standard and customized technical training activities, courses, and programs. Collaborates with college staff and company personnel to develop appropriate company training plans funded through available Iowa Grant opportunities. Orders and maintains specialized instructional equipment. Researches and recommends the purchase of appropriate training curriculum and equipment for the delivery of technical training. Designs, develops, constructs, or provides direction in construction of training equipment and instructional aids. Prepares and submits class outlines and cost proposals. Prepares and monitors budgets for areas of credit and non-credit programs. Cooperates with Operations staff for accurate record keeping of training programs as prescribed by Hawkeye Community College. Serves on college committees at local and state level and participates in team meetings. Exhibits and facilitates team behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in business, education, or related technical area and three years of directly related work experience or combination of education and work experience and working knowledge of technical or industrial systems in at least one of the following areas: process automation, industrial electronic and electrical systems, motors and controls systems, programmable controls systems, automated machining systems, plumbing/HVAC, construction, hydraulic/fluid power, refrigeration/boiler systems or other technical areas. Demonstrated ability to plan and supervise the work of instructors. Demonstrated skill in curriculum development. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work with diverse groups. Project management experience in a team based environment. Demonstrated ability to participate in project teams and ability to initiate major parts of team based projects. Demonstrated experience as a team player striving for good internal and external customer relations. Computer skills in both application programs and the usage of computers in a technical training environment. Ability to travel to and from work sites and meetings, day and evenings.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-time position opening with a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution). Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience.
