JOB SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for the Community Education Coordination: serves the lifelong learning needs of one or more populations or audiences by effectively administering the delivery of classes and events. Researches and analyzes community education needs and opportunities, and solicits business and industry leaders to identify needs. Recruits, supervises, and evaluates instructors. Participates with other staff in the coordination and set-up of equipment, facilities and scheduling of instructors and personnel to provide training at community and college locations. Communicates and cooperates with community organizations for times, lengths, and locations of classes. Evaluates the effectiveness and appropriateness of community education offerings and implements and/or recommends changes or improvements. Collaborates with Contract Training and Sales staff to ensure needs are met. Represents Hawkeye Community College at local and state committees and initiatives. Participates in community activities and events to promote awareness of the College’s community education programs. Community Education Program Development: Provides lead role for BCE staff in the development of community education programs. Monitors trends in demand and assesses community needs for existing course offerings and solicits information from public sources and business/industry on additional community education interests and needs. Collaborates with BCE staff to design, implement and evaluate standard and customized technical training programs. Supervises, recruits, and evaluates full and part-time staff involved in the coordination and development of community education offerings. Updates curricular guides, syllabi and competencies to meet requirements. Project Management and Program Planning: Coordinates with Operations staff for data input of all course demographics and accurate record keeping of programs as prescribed by Hawkeye Community College. Collaborates with Operations staff in the decision making process regarding the cancellation of classes or events. Serves on college committees and participates in Business and Community Education team meetings. Exhibits and facilitates team behaviors including, meeting management, testing for consensus, resolving differences, seeking information and opinions, clarifying ideas of the team and initiating discussions. Identifies target audiences for the College’s community education offerings and collaborates with marketing professionals in the development of marketing and promotional materials for continuing and community education. Prepares programming budget and benchmarks following industry standards (LERN Financial Formula and Staff Productivity), cancellation rate, and new course development. Develops and implements budget models and pricing for courses and programs. Provides financial analysis of programming measuring fiscal performance as compared to established benchmarks. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in business, education or related technical area and three years of directly related work experience or a combination of seven years of higher education and directly related work experience. Demonstrated ability to plan and supervise the work of instructors. Demonstrated skill in curriculum development. Working knowledge of modern principles and practices relating to adult education or teaching. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work with diverse groups. Project management experience in a team based environment striving for good internal and external customer relations. Ability to plan, organize and manage time. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming from diverse backgrounds. Valid driver’s license required. Ability to travel to and from work sites and meetings, day and evenings.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full time position opening with a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; holiday, personal, sick, and vacation leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution). Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience.
