Communications (Oral) Instructor

MON7 JOB SUMMARY: This is a full-time position providing high-quality classroom instruction in oral communications. Instructional areas will include oral communication and may include diversity in media studies and drama. Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, on-line, ICN). A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical. Necessary skills for this position include the ability to create and maintain curriculum for assigned courses, use instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated course objectives, assess student work and provide timely student progress reports as required by the College. Computer-mediated instruction is a plus and use of the course management system is required. Besides teaching duties, this position requires the following: advising and providing leadership to students, and demonstrating exemplary teamwork and communication skills with supervisors, program faculty, other divisions of the College, and the community. Leadership opportunities are available in the following areas: expanding and integrating curriculum and alternate delivery formats; developing continuing/professional education offerings; grant projects; program promotion; advising and mentoring; and initiatives to increase enrollment of nontraditional students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Communications/Speech or closely related field. Preferences include community college teaching experience; and teaching of oral communications, media studies, and related courses.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Nine-month contractual position beginning in August of 2017. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution).
