JOB SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for the supervision and/or installation of telecommunications equipment by staff and third party vendors. Supports the daily operation of Hawkeye Telecommunications, including classroom video recording and streaming, service and maintenance of distance learning classrooms. Recommends, designs and engineers telecommunications system additions, configurations, upgrades, and bid specifications. Provide technical support for college-wide video data networks for digital and streaming video, requiring knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and scripting. Develops equipment bid specifications. Performs system evaluations, inspections, and reporting as per FCC and college requirements. Consults with Iowa Public Television and similar telecommunications agencies. Serve as system administrator for the Digital Media Library; provide technical support, create authorized digital copies of media, load content, and maintain overall system functionality. Coordinate with Public Safety and Human Resources to support the video portion of the IP Security camera system. Repair electronic equipment related to telecommunications, classroom or conference room technology, or other small electronics. Provide backup technical support of the college’s telecommunications equipment and backup support for ICN video telecommunications equipment in Merged Area VII. Maintain current and in-depth knowledge of video technology including hardware, communications, and networking technologies (LAN, WAN and Wireless), new developments in television and video production, distribution, IP video, digital signage, videoconferencing, and streaming media technologies and related fields. Works flexible hours as needed. Develops and maintains documentation of work processes. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in a Computer or Electronics related field plus two years directly related work experience, or a related Associate’s Degree and four years of directly related work experience Working knowledge and experience with Telecommunications, Television Production systems, IP Video systems, Digital Signage systems, Videoconferencing systems, microcomputer operations, and Streaming Media systems. Detailed knowledge of the design, installation, and maintenance of closed circuit distribution systems and digital signage. Experience with audio/video control and automation systems (Crestron, Extron) in conference room or classroom environments. Experience with digital audio and video codecs, protocols, and transport in routed networks. Experience repairing small electronics such as equipment related to telecommunications, classroom or conference room technology. Adept at learning new technologies and software applications. Ability to work effectively independently and with a team. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Preferences include three or more years work experience with digital audio/video engineering and work experience in an educational setting.
