JOB SUMMARY: This individual provides positive leadership that supports excellence in teaching for learning throughout the college. Responsible for the production and delivery of professional development opportunities that employ current learning theory and effective pedagogy to both new and experienced faculty with the expectation that innovative teaching methodology that enhances student engagement and active learning will be emphasized. Consults with academic administration and faculty to determine current professional development needs of the faculty. Coordinates with Academic Affairs to ensure effective implementation of the College’s Quality Faculty Plan. Organizes and facilitates new faculty orientation. Initiates and maintains the faculty mentoring and induction program. Coordinates with faculty and academic administration to develop and promote best practices in the assessment of student learning and teaching effectiveness. Collaborates with faculty and academic administrators to support curriculum organization and design within multiple modes of course delivery including online, hybrid, web enhanced, ICN/EBS and traditional face-to-face and coordinates professional development activities to support the effectiveness of alternative delivery formats. Researches and supports faculty in the use of the most current instructional technologies. Provides faculty training that supports and incorporates the use of technology in the classroom to support quality instruction. Leads the staff of the Brobst Center for Teaching and Learning Services in a team effort to support instructional technology and design, classroom multimedia, and distance learning and provides oversight of the Hawkeye Learning Management System, the Iowa Communication Network (ICN) and the Educational Broadcast System (EBS). Directs the maintenance, purchase, and inventory of classroom multimedia equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
 

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree with three years post-secondary teaching experience. Experience with curriculum development, curriculum design, online teaching and learning, online learning platforms, instructional methodology, instructional/computer technology, faculty development, management of a team, planning, evaluation, assessment, and faculty professional development. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings/weekends. Ability to work with persons with varied backgrounds and educational levels while maintaining a high level of professionalism is important. A working knowledge of community college philosophy and mission is expected. Preferences include community college teaching experience.
 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time position opening with a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; holiday, personal, sick, and vacation leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution). Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience.
