JOB SUMMARY: This individual works with students in the Hawkeye Community College Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Completion (HSC), and English Language Learning (ELL) Programs to aid them in the successful transition to post-secondary training. Meets one-on-one with students to discuss academic goals and options, completes and discusses career interest inventories, connects students with FAFSA help, assists students to fill out college admission paperwork, connects students with admissions and financial aid departments, and takes students on campus tours. Collaborates with admissions and financial aid departments and EOC at UNI-CUE to offer presentations to HSC students at all campus sites. Stays current on program requirements and new initiatives such as GAP and PACE. Knows the ABE/HSC/ELL student body well enough to be able to provide the intensive assistance necessary for successful transition to post-secondary education. Provides support service/retention effort/college completion initiative for college credit students who were ABE/HSC/ELL students. Maintains communication with the ABE/HSC/ELL teachers and administrative staff. Serves on ABE/HSC/ELL Advisory Board. Maintains necessary records and prepares statistical reports as required. Selects and orders any necessary instructional or college promotional materials and serves as a resource person for ABE/HSC/ELL staff. Provides professional development on transition to college for ABE/HSC/ELL staff. Assists in staffing and providing customer service for ABE/HSC/ELL office. Serves as a positive voice to community groups about ABE/HSC/ELL students. Attends meetings with community and college groups as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Social Sciences, Business, Education or related field. Highly developed skills in interpersonal relations. Must have a valid driver’s license. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to manage multiple projects and objectives simultaneously. Demonstrated working knowledge of computer applications. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends. Ability to work with and provide customer service for diverse populations (faculty, staff, students, and general public). Ability to work collaboratively with staff from multiple departments. Preferences include experience with ABE/HSC/ELL students; experience assisting students with the transition process to post-secondary education or training; experience working with first-generation college students; experience in college admissions or recruitment departments; experience with college retention/completion initiatives; experience assisting students with career exploration; community college experience.

Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience.
