Respiratory Care Instructor and Director of Clinical Education

 MON7 JOB SUMMARY: Hawkeye Community College students are prepared in a variety of settings including our on-site laboratory/clinical settings that are fully equipped to prepare them for patient care. This includes our multimillion dollar, state-of-the-art simulation center complete with Pyxis station, Docucare EMR system, IV simulators, and eight basic and advanced interactive patient simulators including adult, pediatric, neonatal, and maternal models. This is a full-time teaching position with clinical coordinator duties in our Respiratory Care Program. This position has the responsibility of providing high-quality classroom instruction and leadership to the students of the Respiratory Care Program. Hawkeye Community College’s Respiratory Care program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care. Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, on-line). A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical. Necessary skills for this position include the ability to formulate and maintain curriculum for assigned courses, employ instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assess student progress on a regular basis, and provide progress reports as required. Experience with or commitment to various instructional modalities such as computer-mediated instruction is essential. Beyond instructional responsibility, this position requires advising/mentoring and providing leadership to students. This individual will be expected to demonstrate exemplary teamwork skills and communication skills with supervisors, program faculty, the Advisory Committee, other divisions of the College, and the community. Leadership opportunities are available in the following areas: expanding and integrating curriculum with virtual simulations and alternate delivery formats; direction of clinical experience, including external sites; developing continuing/professional education offerings; grant projects; program promotion; ring; and initiatives to increase enrollment of nontraditional students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree. Must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and hold such professional license or certificate as is required by the state of current or most recent employment. A minimum of four years work experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (of which at least two years must include clinical respiratory care) with a minimum of two years’ experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as faculty or as a clinical preceptor). Preferences include master’s degree and teacher training/experience. Consideration will be given for additional current certifications, e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Nine-month contractual position with anticipated start date of August 14, 2017. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution).
