Online Courses

Hawkeye offers and develops distance learning courses taught online over the Internet using the ANGEL Learning Management System. Students receive course content by navigating course web sites. Course requirements vary, but readings from textbooks and web sites, written reports, and online discussions with other classmates may be required.

Determine your “readiness” to take online courses at HCC through ANGEL

  1. I have daily access to a computer and to the Internet.
  2. I can type well and have basic word processing skills.
  3. I am a good reader and regularly read material off the computer screen with no problem.
  4. I understand online courses can be more challenging than face-to-face courses.
  5. I have good time-management skills that will allow me to schedule at least five to nine hours a week to work on my online course.

If you answered YES to all 5 of the above questions, you may be ready to take an online course.

ICN Classes

Hawkeye offers live classes each semester with our instructors over the statewide fiber optics Iowa Communications Network (ICN) and over Hawkeye’s Instructional Television Fixed Service (ITFS) System. Both systems offer classes that are:

  • Live and not prerecorded.
  • Broadcast on the main campus as well as in several locations throughout Merged Area VII and throughout the state (limited basis).
  • Interactive--allowing students and their instrucor to see and hear each other in the class through video monitors and microphones.

Search for distance learning courses online:
Under Class Schedules, select Course Search, choose a term from the dropdown, and choose the Location criteria: WEB, WEBHC (online course with face-to-face component), or Off Campus.

For more information on how a specific distance learning course may fulfill various degree or general education requirements, contact your program advisor.
