About Leah

Leah graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Liberal Arts for the Human Services. She obtained her Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in the study of trauma from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. Her first job as an instructor began at Cochise Community College as an adjunct, responsible for teaching college experience and psychology courses. Fall 2021 marked her first semester with Hawkeye Community College as Psychology faculty.

Her professional experiences include tutoring EL students in small-town Colorado, providing mental health treatment to children and families in rural Arizona, consulting/coaching on trauma-informed practices (stress, trauma, self-care) for a large urban school district.

Her research interests include child sexual abuse prevention, parent-child attachment, third-wave cognitive-behavioral therapies, like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and paraphilias.

Leah lives with her spouse and two dogs, enjoys camping, hiking, yoga, and soccer. She trains for one, sometimes two, sprint triathlons a year.
