Veterans & Military

Veteran Affairs

The Financial Aid Office maintains all files for veterans enrolled at Hawkeye.

Veterans and reservists should:

  • Pick up an application in the Financial Aid Office
  • Pay your first semester tuition and fees the day of registration or make other arrangements with the Business Office. Note: Veterans do not generally receive any VA benefits for at least six weeks after initial registration in a program.
  • Keep your attendance and grade point average in good standing.
  • Report a change of address to the Financial Aid Office.
  • Contact Veteran’s Affairs Office if you drop or add a class. Dropping below full-time status may affect your benefits.

Other important information:

  • The college will notify the VA of your status.
  • Veterans Administration will not provide any benefits, if you retake a course that you received a passing grade to improve your grade point average.
  • Under Veterans Administration guidelines, veterans may receive payments in advance of the start of classes.

Iowa National Guard

The Iowa National Guard Tuition Aid Program (INGTAP) may pay up to 50% of undergraduate tuition for active members.

  • Submit an application to your Unit Commander to apply for this program
  • The Adjutant General determines eligibility and then notifies the Iowa College Student Aid Commission (ICSAC) of approved applications.
  • The College is notified by the ICSAC of the student’s eligibility.

Funding for INGTAP program is determined on an annual basis by the Iowa General Assembly.
