Eligibility Requirements

Students must meet the following eligibility requirements to receive financial aid.

Class Attendance Policy

  • Students must attend class to receive financial aid.
  • Students no longer attending class will have a last date of attendance established to determine the amount of financial aid the student is eligible to receive during the period they attended class.
  • Unearned financial assistance is returned to the Federal Government for the period of non-attendance.

Enrolled Credit

  • Students must be enrolled at least halftime: six hours per semester; three hours in the summer term.
  • Students must be enrolled for a minimum of three degree seeking credit hours to receive consideration for financial aid. A minimum of six credit hours is needed to receive consideration for a loan.
  • Students enrolled solely in developmental courses may only receive consideration for Federal Direct Loans for a maximum timeframe of 12 months and are not eligible for grant funds.
  • Student withdrawing from a course(s) and enrolled for five or fewer credit hours, will cancel any future loan disbursements.
  • Students must be accepted in an eligible academic program (Nursing Assistant and RN First Assistant programs do not qualify).

Eligibility, Scholarships & Loans

  • Students are required to notify the Financial Aid Office of any scholarships received.
  • Students may only receive financial aid from one school at a time. Please see a financial aid advisor if you are enrolled at two or more colleges at the same time.
  • Students cannot be in default on any student loans or owe a refund of Federal or State grants.
  • Students borrowing a Federal Stafford Loan for the first time at Hawkeye must complete an Entrance Loan Counseling session. This may be done at Hawkeye library or www.mapping-your-future.org.

Class Withdrawal

  • Students withdrawing from the college are subject to the current refund policy and the college may retain an administrative fee of 5% of tuition and fees up to a maximum of $100.
