Main Campus - Brock Student Center
Hawkeye students, faculty, and staff will be participating in the Letter From Birmingham Jail: A Worldwide Celebration. This celebration is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the day that Martin Luther King, Jr. began writing his Letter from Birmingham Jail.
Students, staff, and faculty at the main campus will come together to read excerpts from Dr. King’s letter.
Students and staff at Hawkeye’s satellite centers at the Metro Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Center, Independence Center, Waverly Center, and Western Outreach Center will also have students/staff participating by reading selections during the day.
Students from the Metro Center have selected portions of the letter to read during class. This event will provide them with the opportunity to connect students with history and allow them to practice with reading aloud, etc.
Hawkeye Community College and the University of Iowa are the only organizations registered as participants in this important activity.
Hawkeye's Waverly Center is closed today, Firday, September 23.
