Class Description: Always wanted to be a published writer? Sometimes the hardest part is getting started. Learn the basics of successful writing for publication, helpful hints on fitting writing time into your busy life, and the importance of editing and revision. Get tips on how to break into publication by writing "shorts" and contemplative essays for anthologies. Review information and sources for some of the easier markets to break into. In addition to writing tips, learn whether or not you need an agent, and how to obtain one if you do. Learn how to tell the difference between good agents and publishers and bad ones. This class will also cover how to format a manuscript head letter, basic query letters, a synopsis, and a book proposal. Discuss why you need an online presence that includes Facebook, Twitter, a blog, and a website in building up your own platform. Class includes a free critique of up to ten pages. Submit pages for critique before the first class or between the two classes to mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org.
