Students who have completed certificates, diplomas, or associate degree programs will be participating in the 2012 Spring graduation ceremony. The graduation ceremony will be held at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center located off University Avenue in Cedar Falls on the University of Northern Iowa's main campus. Directions. Any guest(s) over the age of two must have a ticket to be seated in the auditorium at the ceremony. An overflow room will be available for guests who do not have a ticket. Graduates can pick up tickets two weeks prior to the ceremony at the Brock Student Center. Students must fill out the graduation application and measure for cap and gown to participate in commencement. Not measuring for cap and gown indicates to the Student Life office that you do not intend to participate in commencement. Graduate SurveyLet us know what you are up to after graduation. Graduation Speaker - Chad ShipmanIn the relatively short time since he graduated from Hawkeye Community College, Chad Shipman of Waterloo has clearly made a name for himself. After graduating from East High School in 1995, Shipman attended Hawkeye Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Business Administration in 1998. While attending college, he served his country with the United States Marine Corps for eight years. Since then, Shipman has become a successful husband, father, businessman, and devoted volunteer in the community. He currently serves as the marketing director for WorldVentures, a leader in the leisure travel industry. In addition, Shipman serves as a business development consultant to the Samuels Group, a full-service commercial construction contractor in Iowa and Wisconsin. Shipman has also spent countless hours of his personal time giving back to his community. His volunteer activities have included Main Street Waterloo: past board chair, current Design Council member, and 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award winner; Junior Achievement: board member and planning committee for “Taste of Spring” fundraiser; Irish Fest: chairman pro-tem, fundraiser, recruiter; and American Red Cross board member. Nominated by his peers, Shipman received the prestigious “20 under 40” award from the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier in 2010. This distinguished award is given each year by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier to 20 individuals under the age of 40. It recognizes individuals who live and work in the Cedar Valley and are dedicated to making their community a better place to live. Shipman is a big believer in mentoring others and teamwork. He believes in investing in young people and the community by getting involved, volunteering, and showing local support. He is an outstanding example of someone who is making a difference in the lives of others and in his community. Shipman and his wife, Jessie, have a daughter, Journey, and a son, Phoenix.
