The first Powder 5k Fun Run/Walk was a great success!  The Student Life department coordinated the event allowing participants to register for the 5k or the one mile with proceeds going towards student scholarship at Hawkeye Community College.  There were more than 450 people registered, creating over $6,000 in student scholarships.  Whether they wanted to walk or run, everyone came to the finish line looking all colorful from the multi-colored powder locations where student organizations and clubs such as Student Senate and Ambassadors, Criminal Justice Club, and Natural Resources club dressed up and threw eco-friendly powder for participants to run through.

Participants also had the choice to purchase a performance shirt for the race and were given neon shades for eye protection.  This family-friendly event created an atmosphere for everyone to get involved and have a great time despite the chilly weather.  Everyone was full of color and smiles at the finish line where they enjoyed post party with games and food.

Thanks for all who participated, and we look forward to having you back next year for more color, food, and fun!
